Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag 2023!

Hey, everyone! I’m bringing back one of my favourite tags to shout about all the amazing books I’ve read this year so far, as well as some that I’m hoping to read later on. But first, let’s take a look at where I’m up to with my reading challenge.

I’ve read 40/60 books so far. While I should easily be able to reach my goal of 60 books, I did want to have read more than 40 by this point. Hopefully I’ll be able to get more read in the second half of the year!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2023

My favourite book this year so far is This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi. I adore her Shatter Me series and was very excited to start a new series by her. This one did not disappoint and was the easiest five stars I’ve given. The world building was incredible and I fell in love with our two main characters. I’m rooting so hard for them!

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2023

Probably won’t be a surprise to anyone that my favourite sequel is These Infinite Threads by Tahereh Mafi. Again, it was the easiest five stars I’ve given and I wish I had the third book. I’m worried there will be a love triangle in the third book though and I really hope there isn’t because I feel like we should have moved on from love triangles by now. I’ll still likely devour it in one sitting though because it’s Tahereh Mafi and she’s a fantastic writer.

Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag 2021!

Hi guys! Today I am finally sharing my absolute favourite tag ever and that is the mid-year freak out book tag, where I discuss all the incredible books I’ve read this year! But first, my Goodreads challenge: I have read 41/80 books this year so far.

I’m definitely not reading as much this year since I’ve been doing other things. I’ve been watching more TV shows and playing more video games which I’ve been really enjoying. I have picked up reading more in the second half of the year and I should just about manage to read 80 books. Now let’s discuss all the amazing books I’ve read this year so far!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2021

My favourite book this year so far is definitely The Wild Girls by Phoebe Morgan. I’ve heard of this author before but this is the only book of hers that I’ve read and that will change given how much I loved this one. It’s a thriller that follows four friends who go on a luxury retreat to South Africa when they reunite for a birthday celebration. Alice, Grace and Hannah agree to meet their friend Felicity there, but once they arrive there’s no sign of Felicity or the party that was promised and they are alone in the wild. From that point onwards, their idea of a birthday bash is quickly dampened by their eerie surroundings and the sinister notes that are left in the girls’ lodges. I was very impressed with how quickly Morgan managed to create such a menacing setting and it left me constantly on edge because I always had the sense that something bad was going to happen. There was never a dull moment as the book flipped between the past and present as it told the story of how these “Wild Girls” went from being the best of friends to complete strangers. This is a book you’ll start reading and end up devouring in one sitting. It’s a very well-crafted story that oozes tension right from the start and has a killer twist at the end.

The Nope Trope Book Tag!

Hey guys! Today I have another tag to share with you and it’s the nope trope book tag created by Zoe’s All Booked. I found it while I was scrolling through booktube and I thought why not give it a go. I love book tags, they’re so much fun and I liked the questions for this one. So let’s get into it!

Eavesdropping w/ miscommunication – Name a book you heard great things about and expected to love but ended up hating.

It has to be Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor because this is the one read I was most disappointed by last year. It’s been hyped up so much and because of that I was expecting it to be a five star read, but it was actually three stars and I think I’m being too generous even with that. I went into this expecting it to be an amazing fantasy, but it felt more like a romance to me and it had insta-love with Lazlo and Sarai. Everything else didn’t seem to matter once Lazo and Sarai laid eyes upon each other and it annoyed me so much. I just didn’t care and I wanted to know more about each character’s magical ability and the lost city of Weep. Maybe this story wasn’t for me because everyone else seems to love it.

The Anti-TBR Tag

Hey guys! I know I say this every time I do a tag, but it really has been a while since I last did one and I have seen this one making the rounds on blogs and booktube. It’s a fairly new tag so for once I’m not super late to it! It looked really fun and it was originally created by Nicole & Her Books. So let’s get into it!

A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading?

How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black. I have been seeing this book everywhere and I think quite a few YA book boxes did special editions. I tried to read this series but I only managed to read the first book and I sold my copy of The Wicked King because I had no interest in continuing with this series. I couldn’t understand what was so interesting about Cardan because his character was so dull! I think this is told from Cardan’s perspective so even if I decided to finish the trilogy, I already know I won’t enjoy this book.

Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag 2020!

Hey guys! It’s time to share my favourite book tag again! Can you believe we’re in mid-June already? I love doing this tag and I’m so pleased to able to post it finally. This year so far I’ve read 44 books and I’m just over halfway through my Goodreads challenge.

I’m not the far ahead compared to last year and honestly working from home hasn’t given me that much of a boost. The only good thing is that I’ve managed to read my thicker hardback books that were like 600 pages. Here’s my best and worst books of 2020 so far:

1) Best book you’ve read so far in 2020

It has to be House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas. This book was incredible and so surprising! I had no idea what to expect from it, I just knew I had to read it as soon as it came out. Best decision ever! There was a whole cast of characters that meant there was never a dull moment. I loved Bryce and Hunt and was rooting for them the whole way through. I was really surprised by how much I ended up loving this.

2) Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020

I’ve read some new series this year but the sequels weren’t particularly earth-shattering. The only sequel I loved was Shadowblack by Sebastien de Castell and that was a reread. It was so deserving of five stars and I loved it just as much as the first time I read it. It’s intense but also entertaining, has serious characters but then sarcastic ones to balance it out. It’s one of my favourite fantasy series.

Book Tag: Books I Want to Read But Don’t Want to Read

Hey guys! Honestly I say this every time I do a book tag, but it really has been a few months since my last one. I spotted this particular tag over on The Comfy Reader and it seemed like a lot of fun to do! Unfortunately I do not know who originally created this tag but all credit goes to them.

The Court of Miracles

A Book You Feel You Need To Read Because Everyone Talks About It

One book that has been popping up again and again on Twitter and Instagram is The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant and this comes out in June. It’s marketed as Six of Crows meets Les Miserables and is about a thief going head to head with leaders of Paris’s criminal underground in the wake of a failed French Revolution. This doesn’t sound like a book I would like to be honest, but since there’s so much hype around it I’ll probably end up reading it.

The End of The Year Book Tag!

Hey guys! I haven’t done a book tag in a while and since we are approaching the end of the year, I thought this one created by Ariel Bissett was perfect! I hope you enjoy!

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

Oh, boy. For this one I’m going to pick Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo and Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen McManus. I DNF’d both of these books and for some reason I am so bad at finishing Crooked Kingdom. I have no idea why! I just can’t get into this book but I really want to finish it!

Nevermind Book Tag!

Hey guys! Today I am bringing you the Nevermind Book Tag which was recently created by readinginfinitely. I love finding new tags to do and this one seemed like a lot of fun! It’s goes through books or series you changed your mind about and I don’t think I’ve done anything like this on my blog before so I’m excited to share my choices with all of you! So let’s get into it!

Shatter Me

A book you rated high but have now changed your mind and/or a book you’ve rated low and changed your mind

For a book you rated high but have now change your mind about I’m going to go with Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. When I first read Shatter Me in 2016 (Was that really 3 years ago?) I rated it 5 stars just because it was so different and I loved Tahereh’s writing style. However, I reread it this year and only gave it 3 stars. I didn’t think there was much of a plot; it was all very repetitious and I couldn’t justify giving it higher than that. Also I read in a couple reviews that there was massive character development by the end of the book but I didn’t think there was? I was disappointed to give it such a low rating but I didn’t enjoy it all that much.

Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag!

Hey guys! My lovely friend Kate did this tag last week and I can’t believe it’s that time of the year already! This is by far one of my most favourite tags to do and I love revisiting what I’ve read so far each year. So that’s what I’m bringing you all day and first, like Kate, I just want to take a look at my reading challenge:

Screenshot 2019-06-18 at 7.32.46 pm

Considering I was in a book slump for the first 2-3 months of the year, I’m really pleased that I’ve managed to claw my way back and I’m sitting pretty comfortably at 42 books! I can’t believe I’m still 6 books ahead of schedule, that is crazy! I should easily make 80!
