Hey guys! Today I am unboxing Illumicrate’s December book and unfortunately, I was spoiled for this. My box was delayed and I saw everyone else’s photos on Facebook BTS groups. I was still blown away by it when I got my copy because it’s a really unique edition! I’ve heard great things about it too.
A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske: So this is the book for December and I’m not sure how I feel about the see-through plastic cover. It’s a really beautiful edition but I’m not too impressed with the use of plastic. I’d have preferred a normal dust jacket if I’m being honest or maybe a different material. I’m not sure if anyone else feels the same way because all I’ve seen is people saying how beautiful this edition is. I think it’s absolutely stunning as well, especially the stencilled edges. It’s just the plastic that I’m not sure about. I do really love the design on the naked hardback and I think that would look really nice displayed on any bookshelf.
As I already mentioned, the stencilled edges are on another level. The design is so detailed and the colours are so bright. I’m very happy with this design and feel like Illumicrate are really stepping up now.
The book is hand signed too! There’s been a lot of bookplates and digital signatures this year so I’m really happy to see it’s properly signed this month. There’s also the monthly pin, which I love. I think it’s really pretty.
I did notice, however, that Illumicrate will no longer be including the monthly pins from next year. I don’t know how I feel about that because, while I wasn’t really a fan of the pins, I don’t think the book alone is value for money without them? Compared to FairyLoot, I dont think Illumicrate’s editions have enough customisations to make them worth £20 without the pin. Plus, FairyLoot is introducing a book only subscription next month so I’m tempted to switch to that instead. I haven’t fully decided yet what to do. I need to read some more of my Illumicrate books to see whether I’ve enjoyed the majority of them. What did you think of this edition? I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading!
