Hey guys! Today I’ll be unboxing Illumicrate’s November book and I think everyone knows what the book is going to be. I normally like to be surprised but I’ve seen this book all over Twitter and some Facebook groups, so when I saw the theme card I instantly knew what it was. I was going to buy the paperback and I’m so glad I didn’t now because the Illumicrate edition is so beautiful. It was well worth the wait for it. This sounds like a book I’d enjoy so I’m very happy to have such a pretty edition.
Little Thieves by Margaret Owen: Illumicrate have done such a great job with this edition. However, I am a little bit disappointed that the cover was kept the same because I was expecting it to be different. I remember Illumicrate saying it had an exclusive cover, but really I think it only has gold foiling. I looked up the standard cover and I can’t see what else is different about it. I wouldn’t really say adding gold foiling makes it an exclusive cover. I find that a bit misleading to be honest. Luckily, the standard cover is beautiful cover so I am happy with it. Also, I love the stencilled edges! That is a beautiful pattern and the top and bottom edges are sprayed too. Last month I was disappointed by the plain edges on Iron Widow, so I’m glad they haven’t done the same with Little Thieves.
What’s really special about this edition though is the gorgeous artwork on the hardback! The author designed these illustrations! How amazing is that? She’s so talented! I was seriously blown away by this when I took the dust jacket off. It’s so, so beautiful. I can’t wait to see how these illustrations tie in with the story now.
I don’t know if you can see it in this picture, but my copy came with a bit of damage. On the spine, some of the protective cover (I think that’s what it is, anyway) is peeling away! I’ve noticed that lots of my Illumicrate books come with damages but they’re not bad enough to get a replacement, which is annoying. One book came with a rip on the dust jacket, another had a couple dents on the naked hardback and a third one didn’t take the sprayed edges on the bottom. I’ve nearly been subscribed to Illumicrate for a year now so I’m going to have to decide soon whether to cancel my subscription or continue with it. I’m interested in FairyLoot’s adult subscription but I can’t afford both, so I need to decide what to do. FairyLoot seem to have more signed copies, but Illumicrate, as you can see with this one, send a lot of bookplates and I’m not really a fan of bookplates. This one is massive too so I’m not sure where to stick it in the book.
This edition also came with an author letter and the monthly pin. I really like the pin! The design and the colours are stunning. Also, the artwork on the author letter is so pretty. I’m very much looking forward to reading it now and seeing how the design on the pin fits into the story.
So that’s Illumicrate’s November book! Despite the damage, I’m very happy with the edition this month and I think I’ll really like the story. I need to catch up with my Illumicrate editions so maybe in December I’ll set aside a few of my Illumicrate editions and see if enjoy them or not. I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading!
