Hey guys! I’m so excited to share with you a double Illumicrate book only unboxing! Both my June and July boxes arrived at the same time and I am blown away by how stunning these books are. Illumicrate really have stepped it up compared to previous months as there’s so many incredibly perks packed into these two months. Without further ado, let’s get into the unboxing:
June 2021 – Out of the Woods
The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid: I didn’t see any spoilers for this box whatsoever, not even anyone guessing what the book was. I didn’t have a clue what it was and when I unboxed it I was really surprised I hadn’t guessed it because it felt obvious afterwards looking at the monthly artwork. I have seen this book all over Twitter and everyone has loved it so I’m so excited to own a copy. I love that the Illumicrate edition is darker and I actually prefer it to the standard edition. Also, it’s signed rather than a bookplate, which I love!
It has beautiful stencilled edges and the top and bottom edges are sprayed red to match. I was not expecting them to go all out like this and I love it. It’s so, so pretty. The red is so vibrant.
As if this book couldn’t get any better, it has embossing on the hardback and it says “Will you tell me a story, wolf-girl?”. I love it! The book also came with an author letter and one side is this stunning artwork. Unfortunately, mine came a little bent but I still love it.
The absolute best part about this book is the reverse dust jacket art. Look at how stunning that is! I can’t decide whether to have the cover on the inside and the artwork on the outside because it deserves to be shown off. I might try it later and see what it looks like. I haven’t been subscribed to Illumicrate very long but this is the first book I’ve received from them that has reverse dust jacket artwork and it’s perfection. I wish every Illumicrate edition had this honestly. It makes the subscription so worth it.
This box was massively delayed since it was supposed to come at the end of June but honestly it was so worth the wait and I’m really glad I didn’t get a refund instead. I would have been upset to miss out on this edition!
July 2021 – Never Enough
She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan: Next we have the July box and this is so funny because the author spoiled this for me! I mean, it is obvious looking at the artwork but as soon as Illumicrate announced the July theme on Twitter, the author was all over it and spoiled it for me. I’m not even mad because I’d be super excited about it as well. I love this edition and it’s darker than the standard one. I think the standard edition is normal yellow and orange whereas this one is red and gold. It looks so pretty and I love the spine.
This is signed by the author, yay! It also came with a signed bookplate and I’m not too sure what I’m going to do with that. I guess I could stick it in the too on a different page? I’ll see! Then it has beautiful endpapers that perfectly match the cover. I love the sunset colours.
It has really beautiful stencilled edges that have an ombré effect. The top of the pages are yellow and it gradually goes into orange and then red, which matches the endpapers. I honestly think this is one of the most beautiful editions I own and Illumicrate have seriously blown me away.
It also came with reverse dust jacket art and this is so incredible! Look at the detail. It’s seriously stunning and like with June’s book, I can’t decide whether to keep the artwork on the inside or display it. I’ll have to see what it looks like!
So that’s the June and July unboxings! What did you think of these editions? I’ve loved Illumicrate’s editions in the past but they really went all out this month. The other editions only had sprayed edges and were signed so to have all these exclusive perks for two months in a row is incredible. I’m so excited to see what else they have planned! I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading!
