Christmas 2020 Book Haul!

Hey guys! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and were able to spend some time with your loved ones. Today I am sharing with you books I got for Christmas and also some books I bought for myself because I need a treat after making it through this year! Here’s my latest haul:

One by One by Ruth Ware: I got this stunning Waterstones edition of One by One, which is signed and has gorgeous snowflake sprayed edges. Ruth Ware is one of my favourite crime authors so I’m really happy to have this special edition of her latest book. The story follows a group of shareholders and directors of Snoop, a new music app, gathering for a make-or-break corporate retreat at a ski resort. But when an avalanche cuts them off and board members turn up dead, they’re forced to ask if someone in their group would resort to murder to get what they want.

The Reckless Afterlife of Harriet Stoker by Lauren James: I haven’t read a book by this author before so I’ve no idea what her writing is like but I had to get her latest book. It popped up as a sponsored post on Facebook and the gorgeous green cover caught my eye immediately. Then I read the synopsis and I added it to my wishlist. It follows eighteen-year-old Harriet Stoker who falls to her death in an abandoned building and discovers there is an afterlife with other ghosts, each with a special power. It sounds awesome and I can’t wait to read it!

Shades of Magic Volume 3: The Rebel Army by V.E. Schwab: This is the third volume in The Steel Prince graphic novel series, which follows Maxim Maresh before he becomes the king of Red London in the Shades of Magic series. I’m not really a fan of graphic novels as I always struggle to follow the story and this has been no exception. However, I have really enjoyed finding out more about young Maxim and his famous stories from when he was a prince. I’m looking forward to continuing his journey in The Rebel Army!

Nine Elms by Robert Bryndza: I’ve been wanting to read this for so long and I’m so excited to finally have a copy of it! I absolutely loved Robert Bryndza’s Detective Erika Foster series after binge reading all six books. Nine Elms is an entirely new series following Kate Marshall, who was a promising young police detective until she crossed paths with the notorious Nine Elms serial killer where her career was left in tatters. Fifteen years later, a copycat killer has taken up the mantle and means to finish the job by killing Kate – the original killer’s intended fifth victim. It sounds so chilling! I really hope it’s as good as his other series.

Burnt Island by Kate Rhodes: This is the third book in the DI Ben Kitto series and I have no idea what this one is about but I have been really enjoying the series. The first book features DI Ben Kitto (obviously), who takes a three month break from his job working from the murder squad in London after suffering from a traumatic event. He decides to relocate to the Scilly island of Bryher where he was born, but while he is there a sixteen year old girl is found murdered and as the killer is still on the island, Ben heads up the investigation. I remember thinking this series had an interesting setting and I was not disappointed. I’m looking forward to reading Burnt Island!

The Cousins by Karen McManus: I picked this up in WHSmith and it’s another stunning UK edition! I love the sprayed edges of all her books, but this one caught me by surprise. I was expecting gold edges but it actually has black edges! I like the black but I think gold would have been nicer. I believe this story follows three cousins who are invited to work at their Grandmother’s island resort. They have never met her as she disinherited their parents before they were born. During their time at the resort, they discover how dark their family’s past is. Sounds like a great thriller.

A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir: I’m so excited to finally have this book! I got the Waterstones edition, which is signed and has purple sprayed edges! It’s gorgeous and I love this series so much so I’m really happy to have a signed copy. Unfortunately, I haven’t managed to read this one yet despite it being on my December TBR. I definitely want to pick it up soon though! This is the final book in the Ember Quartet, which is a great series and one I highly recommend.

So these are all the great books I got this month and I can’t wait to get to them. I’m really happy with the selection and honestly there’s some amazing authors here. What books did you buy/receive this month? I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading!
