Hey guys! I hope you’re all well and safe! I am working from home now for the foreseeable future and since I’m going to be spending a lot more time at home, I thought I would try and find something good in this scary situation: reading! I have a lot of heavy hardbacks that are difficult to carry to and from work and while I’m not going to be travelling anywhere anytime soon, I thought I could actually read all these massive books! Here’s what I’d like to read in the coming weeks:
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: I got these books as soon as they were published but I have struggled to find time to read them because they’re so heavy and thick! I’ve heard lots of great things about the first book, not so much the second one though so this should be interesting. I’ve not read any of Laini’s books before but I’ve heard that her writing is very whimsical and poetic. I don’t know too much about these. I believe the first one is about Lazlo Strange who is a dreamer and is obsessed with the lost city of Weep. Fingers crossed I fall in love with Laini’s writing!
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas: This has literally just come out and have you seen the size of it? This could do some serious damage! You all probably know by now that I am not a huge fan of Sarah’s books but as soon as I heard about this, I was really excited to read it! Just from the synopsis you have demons and a fallen angel! Also it’s adult fantasy so I’m expecting it to be much darker than her other books (the ones that I’ve read anyway). I am expecting there to be lots of romance too. Honestly it sounds incredible. If I don’t like it then I should probably give up on Sarah’s books to be honest.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo: I am kinda scared to read this because I think it’ll be too graphic for me and it’ll make me feel uncomfortable but at the same time I feel like I need to read it. It’s a strange feeling! A lot of people have given it five stars and I’m curious to see if I’d give it the same rating. No idea what it’s about, I think a cult at an elite university but I’m purely guessing based on what I’ve read. I don’t know for sure.
The Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff: I would love to finally finish this series given how much I loved Nevernight and how dark I think the next two books will be. Also, we’re told right at the start of the first book that the main character, Mia, dies in the last book and I refuse to believe that so guess it’s time I finally find out if she does or not! This story is about vengeance and assassins, there’s a lot of death and betrayal in the first book alone. Nevernight is a very complicated book but it’s one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Spellslinger (Books 4-6) by Sebastien de Castell: Sadly I fell behind with this series and now it’s over! I feel like I blinked and the next three books came out. This was also on my list of book series I wanted to finish in 2020 and now feels like a good time to do that! This is one of my absolute favourite young adult fantasy series. The main character is an ordinary boy who seems to have the worst luck. He lives in a world full of magic and uses schemes and tricks to stay alive. I cannot recommend this series enough and I’m so excited to finally be able to continue it.
Are there any books you guys want to read while self-isolating? I would love to know! I hope you are all staying safe and thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
