Hey guys! Today I am talking about hyped 2019 releases I don’t care about or have any interest in reading! These are just ones I’ve constantly seen popping up all over the place, be it people posting pictures of ARCs or even asking about it. Just from reading the synopsis, I have decided these are probably not ones that I’ll like but a lot of them have five star reviews already, so clearly they are popular! Just not something I think I’d enjoy. Here’s my picks:
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi: I read the synopsis for this one and saw 1889 which put me off straight away. I’m not really one for historical settings and much prefer the present day. Also when I was reading the synopsis, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo came to mind as it sounds very similar. The main character has to get a band of experts to help them with a heist? Already read that and didn’t care. I didn’t really like Six of Crows or understand the hype surrounding it, so best to avoid this one.
The Devouring Grey by Christine Lynn Herman: This one is interesting because it has a lot of five star reviews already but just from reading the synopsis, I don’t think it’s one for me. It just seems like one of those ridiculous books when all the adults depend on a group of children saving everyone and there’s love interests or love triangles. It’s just not for me and I will definitely be avoiding it no matter how great the reviews are.
The Wicked King by Holly Black: I feel bad for including this one because I’m meeting Holly Black next month and will be getting a signed copy of The Wicked King but I really have no interest in reading this series? Everyone is screaming from the rooftops about this book, it’s seriously everywhere and I feel like the only person who doesn’t have any interest in it.
Nexus by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings: Another one I feel bad for including because I do like Sasha but Zenith was an absolute mess and I really have no desire to read Nexus. From what I have seen though, they do actually seem to be editing this one so maybe the writing will be better but I’m going to avoid it for sure.
Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte: This one has been popping up for a while now and just from the cover I could already tell I wouldn’t like it. Yes, sadly I am judging a book by the cover but this really won’t be one for me. From the synopsis, it just seems like themes taken from other books and mashed together. I actually saw other people come to similar conclusions saying it takes inspiration from the likes of The Hunger Games and Divergent so even more of a reason for me to pass on this one.
So those are my five picks! Are there any hyped 2019 releases you are planning on avoiding? Feel free to leave a comment below! I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading!
