October 2018 Wrap Up!

Hey guys! I fully embraced this spooky month by reading some very creepy crime thriller/murder mystery books! Admittedly, I completely failed by October TBR as I just ended up not being in the mood for the majority of them. Instead I picked these ones out and I’m really glad I read them as I enjoyed nearly every one! Quite a successful month for me! Here’s what I read:

Strange Ink by Gary Kemble: I really enjoyed this book and thought it was an appropriate read for Halloween, especially because it has freaking ghosts! It was really intense at times and I loved how there was just so much crammed into this one book. It was very fast paced and corruption was right at the core of this story. I can’t believe it is the author’s debut novel! I look forward to seeing what he writes in the future!

Vanished by Tim Weaver: Got another book ticked off the David Raker thriller series! I’m really enjoying these books, they are incredibly action packed and the plots are really dark and creepy! The third book did not disappoint and that ending! It was intense and had such an insane cliffhanger!

Halcyon by Rio Youers: This was also a good pick for Halloween, it had lots of blood and gore! I seem to be reading quite a few books this month about people bring trapped and stalked by a deadly killer? Halloween got its claws into me! But seriously I did like this book, it had many nail biting scenes and also had some supernatural elements which was very surprising! I will be posting a full review soon!

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle: This was probably my favourite read of the month! It was absolutely incredible! Such a rollercoaster of a story and I felt like I was being spun in all these different directions. It had time loops, body swaps and a crazy killer on the loose! Such an impressive debut! How is this Stuart’s first novel?? He needs to write more!

Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay: Oh, look! Another book with a killer! This was not my favourite read to be honest, I think I gave it a very generous three stars but it was probably more like a two star book. I just found it rather boring and dull despite it being about a serial killer. Dexter is a very creepy character though, I’ll give the author that! I’m not sure if I will continue with this series or not, we shall see!

An Unwanted Guest by Shari LapenaAnother brilliant book from Shari Lapena in my opinion! It was very creepy how guests were trapped in a hotel during a snow storm/power cut being picked off by a killer one by one. I had no idea who the killer was as Shari kept a very tight lid on that and I didn’t see any foreshadowing at all! The ending also had her signature and jaw dropping twist!
