MINI REVIEW: The Young Elites trilogy by Marie Lu

Hey guys! I recently finished The Young Elites trilogy by Marie Lu and while I didn’t enjoy it enough to review each book individually, I still wanted to do a mini review of each book in one post. I’ve been wanting to write mini review posts for a while now, so I thought this trilogy would be the perfect time to do so!

the-young-elitesThe Young Elites:

I was expecting so much from this book given how much praise I’ve heard about Marie Lu and her writing. But this ended up being so disappointing and quite boring, actually. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters, I just didn’t like them at all. I felt like they weren’t fully fleshed out and we were only scratching the surface with them. The only thing that interested me about this book was the main character, Adelina, being more of a villain than a hero and embracing her dark side. I read a lot of reviews on Goodreads saying the second book is a lot darker than the first, so this is what made me continue this series. I was interested in seeing that darkness and fury in Adelina.  I wanted to see her take revenge on everyone and make people afraid of her. Another thing I liked was how everyone’s power was unique, no two people could have the same power. I think Marie came up with some great powers for each of the characters. Also the ending did surprise me, I was definitely not expecting Marie to be so ruthless with her characters!

July TBR!

Hello! I kind of crashed and burned in June as I only managed to read three books. I didn’t manage to read every book on my TBR, so I’ll be carrying those over for this month. I’ve also picked some extra ones, hopefully I’ll be able to read them all! Here’s what I plan on reading:

The Midnight Star by Marie Lu: I’m glad I didn’t call it quits on this trilogy because the second book was a lot better than the first. Adelina is almost a completely different person and her actions are a lot darker and more disturbing. I’ve really loved the turn this series has taken and I can’t wait to see how it all ends!

The Things We Learn When We’re Dead by Charlie Laidlaw: This was very kindly sent to me by the author and I’ll be reading it as soon as I finish The Midnight Star. It sounds like it will be a really refreshing and interesting read!

June Book Haul & Wrap Up!

Hey guys! I am combining my book haul and my wrap up post for this month because I had a terrible reading month. I have also been horrible for posting on my blog this month and I am truly sorry about that! I have hardly posted anything, it’s so bad. June has not been a good month for me in general but I’m feeling slightly better now, so hopefully I can read and post more in July!

Book haul:

The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter: This was literally £2.99 in Sainsbury’s! I couldn’t believe how cheap it was and immediately snatched a copy up. I have seen lots of amazing reviews for this so I can’t wait to read it now!

The Things We Learn When We’re Dead by Charlie Laidlaw: This was very kindly sent to me for review by the author and he actually signed it as well! That was such a lovely surprise and there was a cute little bookmark included as well. It sounds like a book I’d really like and the plot definitely seems unique! I’ll be reading this in July so keep an eye out for my review!

FairyLoot Unboxing: June 2018!

Hey guys! I was really looking forward to this book and was really digging the theme. I love masquerades and some of the books they mentioned for this theme got me really excited. I really loved the items in this box, although it was not my favourite but it’s definitely worth the money I paid for it! Everything in this box looked really expensive in my opinion and I think they’ve picked some beautiful items. Here’s what was in the June box:

Masquerade Mask Necklace (Team FairyLoot): First up is this absolutely beautiful masquerade necklace! I was definitely not expecting this item and I was stunned! It’s so pretty and I’ve already been wearing it. The box is really pretty too, I love how it has the FairyLoot logo on, instead of just a plain black box! Sorry, I struggled to get a decent picture of the necklace but hopefully you can still see how nice it is!
