April Wrap Up! (7 books!!!!)

Hey guys! I have no idea what happened but I had an amazing read month! You all know I read four books in one month normally, but this month I managed to read SEVEN BOOKS (Yes, that’s right!!!!) and I am just completely floored. Who am I?? This is definitely the best reading month I have had in a while! My friend set me five and I blasted through them and then picked up two more books for myself to finish the month off with. Here’s what I read:

A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir: I knew she would pick this and I’m so glad she did! It wasn’t as exciting as the first book and was definitely slower but I still really enjoyed it and I love the characters even more now! I can’t wait for the third book to come out! I have a full review up if you want to check that out!

Nightfall by Jake Halpern and Peter Kujawinski: This was definitely the worst book I read this month! It was so bad and I’m definitely going to chuck it (not really – I am going to donate it). The writing was appalling and I wanted to tear my eyes out. Reading it was like watching paint dry, I was so damn bored. The characters had zero personality and their interactions with one another were so bland. They literally got left behind on an island with a bunch of demons and there was no sense of urgency or fear about the situation. The story was so messed up I had no idea what was happening and the creepy stuff that did happen made no damn sense. A good idea for a book but poorly, poorly executed.

The Death of Mrs Westaway by Ruth Ware: I think this is my new favourite book by Ruth Ware! I really liked The Lying Game but I think this has managed to top that! Really loved the main character and found it very easy to connect with her. It’s a slow burner type mystery but it was really compelling and it had me guessing all the way through. Didn’t see the ending coming and would definitely recommend this!

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle: Definitely wasn’t expecting her to pick this and was surprised to see it on the list. Glad she did pick it though because it means that I have another Sherlock Holmes story ticked off my list. Very slowly making my way through the collection! I really liked these short stories but a few of them were quite boring. They consisted of pages and pages of the client retelling their story to Sherlock and then the last two pages were him declaring he had solved the mystery and a very brief explanation of how he got to his conclusion. Apart from those few, I enjoyed the majority of them!

The Fever Code by James Dashner: So… I have finally finished The Maze Runner series. So sad but it had to be done. I loved this book and it definitely answered a lot of my questions. The ending was horrible and I should have seen it coming, but I didn’t. This was such a wonderful but heartbreaking series and will definitely remain one of my favourites!

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware: Two Ruth Ware books in one month, hell yes! I really enjoyed this one, a lot more than The Woman in Cabin 10. The main character was just so much more likeable and I was more invested in the story. I didn’t have a clue what was going to happen and the ending left me floored. Have a review up for this too if you want to check that out!

The Beloveds

The Beloveds by Maureen Lindley: This was such a messed up and disturbing story! The main character Betty, is so malicious and spiteful for no real reason. She pretty much hates everyone because she thinks they get everything they want and are born lucky, therefore she dubs them the “Beloveds.” She especially hates her sister who is genuinely caring and loving. It was one of the strangest books I have ever read and Betty is honestly such a poisonous character. It’s all in first person and from her point of view, so there is literally no escaping her. It started off really well but the last 100 pages or so it got a bit tiring and I just wanted it to end already. This comes out in June and I will have a full review up then!

So these are the seven books that I managed to read and I am very happy with them! Special thank you to my friend for choosing my TBR and it was definitely refreshing for me not having to pick for once! All in all, it was a very successful month! What books did you read this month? Have you read any of these books and what did you think of them? Feel free to leave a comment below! I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading!
