FairyLoot Unboxing: March 2018!

Hey guys! It has been a while since I bought a FairyLoot box, I think the last one was in July. None of the themes since have really caught my eye, but when I found out they were having a two year anniversary box this month and that it would be purple, I just had to get it! I loved the first one year anniversary box and I had high hopes for this one.

Incase you haven’t heard of them, FairyLoot is a YA fantasy monthly subscription box based in the UK. In every book you receive one recently published Young Adult fantasy book and several bookish goodies related to the book’s theme! Lets get into the unboxing, yay!

1) Toast To The Warden of The North Hot Chocolate (Made by Eponine)

The first thing I pulled out was this packet of hot chocolate and I am so happy with it! I immediately thought it was tea or coffee and I don’t drink any of them so I was feeling disappointed. However, I perked up right away when I saw it was actually hot chocolate which I have all the time! It apparently refers to John Snow from Game of Thrones when he became a Warden of the North. I have no idea what any of this means as I don’t watch the show. But I am happy with the hot chocolate!

2) Exclusive Bilbo’s Birthday Cake Vegan Soap (Made by Geeky Clean)

Next I pulled out this lovely and gorgeous smelling soap from Geeky Clean! It’s vanilla and strawberry scented and it smells divine! It refers to Bilbo’s birthday party from Lord of the Rings. I actually get this since I have watched all the films! I just love how glittery the soap is and I can’t wait to use it. I’ve only tried a handful of Geeky Clean’s products but I have honestly loved every one and would highly recommend her products! She does really nice lip balms too!

3) Exclusive Goblet of Fire Candle (Made by Paper Flames)

Next is this cute little candle and it’s absolutely gorgeous. It’s so tiny and adorable! It smells so nice and I love it! The colours are also really pretty, I love how they swirl and blend together, if that makes sense! I’ve said before that I am not a candle person, but I am very pleased with this little one.

4) Cork Bunting (Made by Paladone)

Next up is this very random and certainly unique item. You can hang it on your shelves or desk area and add badges, photos, artwork or notes to display all your memorable moments. It’s cute but honestly, I am not going to use this. I don’t really care for things like this and I have nowhere to hang it. I’m probably just going to give it away or use it as a raffle prize if need be.

5) Exclusive Rune Ceremony Scarf (Made by FictionTea)

This is definitely my favourite item in the box! It’s so beautiful, I was actually breathless when I pulled it out of the packaging. It’s inspired by the rune ceremonies in The Mortal Instruments and Cassandra Clare’s other Shadowhunter books. There’s runes on the scarf for angelic power, speed, soundless, clairvoyance, fearless, deflection, iratze and talent. It’s so soft and really warm. I’ve already been wearing it and I can’t imagine leaving the house without it. I am completely and utterly in love with this scarf. It’s so beautiful!

6) Bonus items: The Belles button and bookmark

Next we have the bonus items and I actually really like these! I forgot to take a picture but the other side of the bookmark says, “I am a Belle. I control beauty.” I actually really like these items and will definitely be using the bookmark! Haven’t read the book but it has piqued my interest and I think it has a really pretty cover, so I MAY read it!

7) State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury

Finally, we have the book! As you can see from the title it is State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury. I honestly had no clue this was the book and I’ve not actually heard of this one yet. I was left breathless by the cover because daaaaang, that is beautiful! I had to take some time to appreciate the beauty. It comes with a signed bookplate, a letter from the author and a postcard! According to FairyLoot, the standard edition is paperback and only people who received this subscription box will have the hardback edition! So you can’t get the hardback version anywhere else. Now that’s pretty cool! The book is filled with political intrigue, magic, mystery and a cut-throat race for power. It sounds freaking awesome! I had a nosey on Goodreads and it actually has really good reviews so I have high hopes for this now!

So that’s everything we received in the March 2018 FairyLoot box! Honestly, if you haven’t tried FairyLoot before, I would highly recommend purchasing a single box because they just have some incredible items! A lot of the items are exclusive as well and you can tell a lot of thought went into each item. I definitely think you get your moneys worth with their boxes and they rarely disappoint! I love how a lot of the items are exclusive too! It wouldn’t be worth buying the box if you could just buy the items separately.

Did you purchase this months box? What did you think? Which item was your favourite? I’d love to know! Please feel free to leave a comment below! I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading!

Those cork things are my least favorite thing in the box, truth be told. I just.. don’t know. You can spice them up, sure, but I don’t think they’ll look all that pretty unless you’re ridiculously creative or something? I might use them for birthdays / Christmas to pin cards on them though – if I haven’t lost the thing by then, haha.

LOVELOVELOVE the scarf. That’s easily my favorite item from this box! I haven’t worn it yet, but I’m so planning on it. It’s gorgeous, so gorgeous. ❤

Hadn't heard of the book yet either but that made it even better. Doesn't happen a lot, being a book blogger and all, I tend to spoil the book for myself so it's a nice surprise when it's a book I haven't even heard of yet, haha.

Yeh, I agree. You’d probably have to paint them or something so they don’t look really boring. I just thought it was a really tacky item and I have no where to hang it. I feel really bad because as soon as I saw it, I just thought “bin” 😂

My scarf came damaged, I didn’t notice until after when I unfolded it properly. It has a pull in it and some holes! I was gutted but they said they will send a new one out to me ☺️ I’ve still been wearing it though and don’t plan on stopping haha! When I saw it was a good box for shadowhunter fans I honestly thought it was going to be a candle haha. I was really surprised and very happy to see the beautiful scarf instead 😀

Haha sometimes though it’s really obvious what the book is going to be. This time though had no clue and it was nice being surprised 😀

      • Kathy @ Books & Munches says:

Exactly! It’s a shame but I pretty much had the same first thought and felt guilty about it immediately, haha. We know they want to add awesome items but some aren’t just for everyone. :’)

Oooh, that sucks! But it’s nice they’re sending you a new one though! Now you have two to cherish – even if one’s not as perfect, haha.
I thought it’d be a candle as well so I was thriiilled it was something definitely unique! I’ve safely hung it on my bookcase for now since I’m scared shitless I’m going to end up ruining it myself.. It’s not like it’s the most firm fabric after all. :’)

Exactly! I’m trying to not even check the next theme anymore in case I spoil the book for myself, haha.

      • Beth says:

Yup! I can wear my damaged one all the time and keep my new one safe xD It’s definitely not great mine has little holes in where the stitching has stretched from me wearing it! Only been wearing it for about a week! The purple scarf from last year is better I’ve worn that a lot and it’s not damaged at all! Have you seen the May theme?! It looks amazing!!!! Have no idea what the book is and not even gonna try and spoil myself hahaha

      • Kathy @ Books & Munches says:

Oooh boo, that sucks! Now I’m even more afraid of ever wearing it.. Maybe I should just.. not.. :’) But that’s such a shame since it’s an awesome scarf and even better to meet fellow bookworms when you’re out and about?! Oh the dilemma..
I didn’t get that scar; I’ve only been getting FL since.. May ’17 I think? I haven’t checked the theme yet. Seriously, I stay clear of anything even remotely spoiler-ish since I figure out the book way too quickly every time I do, haha. 😛

      • Beth says:

I know! 😦 Wouldn’t it be awesome if someone complimented your scarf who was a fan of Cassie? Haha xD Ohh the other scarf was from the March ’17 box 🙂 Haha I’m surprised I haven’t tbf because it seems like a really obvious one xD

      • Kathy @ Books & Munches says:

That would be amazing! Maybe I should wear it to YALC.. Although.. Maybe someone would try to steal it? xD
Hahaha. I’ve stopped doing my Waiting on Wednesday-posts [for now] so that helps as well! I want to be surprised, darn it. xD

      • Beth says:

Haha that wouldn’t be fun but can’t say I’d blame them because it is a beautiful scarf 😂 You’re so lucky to be going YALC! I hope you have an amazing time 😀 Haha yeh probably a good idea to stop them 😂

      • Kathy @ Books & Munches says:

Hahaha, still! Don’t want to risk my scarf!
Right? I know it’ll probably be the only time I actually get to go, at least in the next couple of years because we’re planning on moving and stuff like that so I just had to go at least once before all that. :’)
