Hey guys! Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year! So excited to be taking part in the first Top 5 Wednesday post of the year! It’s pretty self-explanatory as you can see from the title! You just talk about your 2018 reading goals so lets get into it!
This group was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey) and is hosted by Sam (ThoughtsOnTomes). If you want to participate, check out the link on Goodreads here.
1) Read thirty books
I managed to read fifty books in 2017 which I am super proud of but it became less enjoyable when I started falling behind. I’d be three books behind and start panicking. So this year I want to relax more and I have given myself a target of 30 which I think is good and easy to hit. I’ll be racing against the clock less and can go at my own pace.
2) Read more of my own books
I saw this goal on BookBum and completely agree. Lately I’ve only been reading books on NetGalley or ones authors have asked me to review. Don’t get me wrong, I love being given this incredible opportunity to read ARCs and being approached by authors but I have really been neglecting my own books. I get so excited for books that I rush out to buy them and then never actually end up reading them because I am too busy reading ARCs. My TBR is just piling up more and more because of it so this definitely needs to change.
3) Stay up to date on NetGalley
I’m so bad at NetGalley. I request too many books and never end up reading them all. Currently I have 31 approved and 21 feedback sent. That is awful! So I need to read all of my current titles and then be more cautious of how many books I request in the future. I need to actually request a book, read it and then request another.
4) Finish series I started reading
I have so many unfinished series it’s so bad. I read the first book, loved it and then just never picked up the second book. So in 2018 I would really like to finish these series and feel less guilty about leaving them all to pile up in 2017.
5) Get my TBR pile down
This will only work if I stick to my second goal. So maybe if I set two of the same goals it will make me more likely to stick to them. I haven’t had an exact count of my TBR recently but I believe it is close to 100 books, it’s ridiculous. So hopefully I can get this pile down significantly if I focus on my TBR more.
So these are my reading resolutions for 2018! Hopefully I can stick to them. I’ll have to check in halfway through the year and see how I’m doing. I’ll give myself a nudge if I’m not sticking to it. What are some of your reading resolutions for 2018? Feel free to leave a comment below! I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading!
Fab post! It’s so easy to get side tracked by ARC’s, I definitely need to spend time on the books I’ve actually spent money on! 🙂
It really is because you just get so excited and request loads of books 😂😂
NetGalley is such torture sometimes! I’ve succeeded at getting it down to two more books I have to read + review and one I have to review but every time I open that site, it’s so tempting to request more!
Good luck getting your ratio up again!
Wow how do you manage that? My goal is to just reach 80% again because there’s no way I’ll get 100% now 😂🤷♀️ I’m trying to avoid looking at books now but whenever I log in covers just catch my eye 😂
Haha, I guess it’s a benefit of not living in the UK/US as well since I don’t get approved for half the books I request.. :’) [Which pisses me off most of the time but honestly works in my advantage?]
I’m at 93%! But I guess that’s not THAT hard since I’ve only ever been approved for 27 books in total since I started blogging..
Oh no! That would definitely piss me off too but it is totally an advantage because it makes you keep your numbers down xD Wow 93% is awesome! I’m on like 68% if I can get to 80% I’ll be happy haha
Indeed! Both good and bad sides, but we’re focusing on the good, haha!
You’ll get there! 😀
Haha, yes! Ignore the bad xD Hopefully 😀
