Hey guys! I can’t believe that it’s 2018 on Monday! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with your families and got really nice gifts. I hope you don’t mind my lack of posting this week. I posted every day last week so that I could take Christmas off and just have a break from my blog. I love blogging but you definitely need to take a break from it every once in a while. I got two books for Christmas and then I bought one.
1) Artemis by Andy Weir
I knew I was getting this book for Christmas because I asked for the signed edition from Waterstones. I had no idea it was a special edition limited to 2,000 signed copies. You open the book and one of the pages at the front has the number and mine is 1220. That’s really neat! I’m a bit nervous about reading this now though because lots of people have given it low ratings and said Andy Weir tries too hard to make the main character a female version of Mark Watney from The Martian. Apparently it comes across as forced and awkward which is not good. But I really loved The Martian and I was really excited for this so I’ll still see if it’s any good!
2) Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
This was definitely the most surprising gift I got for Christmas! My manager in work asked me if I had read it and I said no but I really wanted to and he actually ended up buying it me for Christmas! Honestly so excited to read it now. It has been on my list for years but for some reason I have just never got round to it. I was so happy when I unwrapped it and will be reading it as soon as I finish my current read. I have a vague idea of what it’s about but for the last three years or so lots of people have been recommending it to me. I studied English so nearly everyone has said to me if you love reading, then you’ll love this. So now I finally have a copy and I am excited!
3) The Lying Game by Ruth Ware
Whenever I am out and about and I see an Oxfam, I just have to go in. It’s the rule. I was out shopping and I knew there was an Oxfam so I made my way to it and inside under new stock they had the hardback of The Lying Game by Ruth Ware for £1.99! This is £12.99 in Waterstones and £8.85 on Amazon. I got a brand new hardback for £1.99. I couldn’t believe my luck. I had to calm myself down I got so excited. I scooped it right up and took it home. I got a digital copy of this via NetGalley and I loved it but didn’t want to pay £12.99 for the hardback. Now I finally own a copy and under the dust jacket, it is so beautiful! It’s like storm clouds and it’s just stunning.
So I have actually been very good for buying books in November and December. I purchased like two books in November which is why I didn’t do a book haul and this month I have only purchased one book! Alas, it will not last as there are lots of books in January I am eyeing up. Then February is my birthday so I’m obviously going to ask for books then. What books did you buy and/or get for Christmas? Feel free to leave a comment below or a link to your December book haul post!
