Top 5 Wednesday: Books from Before You Joined Blogs/Bookstagram

Hey guys! I was honestly so excited when I saw this topic for Top 5 Wednesday! I have found so many fantastic books through the blogging community and bookstagram. I have so many favourite authors that I discovered from seeing their books getting amazing reviews or pictures being all over my Instagram feed. I rave about them all the time on my blog and my bookstgram but I forget to give my old favourites some love. So, without further ado, I am now going to give some much deserved love to my old favourites! Enjoy!

This group was created by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey) and is hosted by Sam (ThoughtsOnTomes). If you want to participate, check out the link on Goodreads here.

1) The Immortals by Alyson Noël

I freaking love these books! I’d never heard anything about them when I first picked them up because I wasn’t using bookstagram yet. I bought them purely for the covers because they really drew me in and made me want to read the books. I really loved them! The plot is really interesting because the main character can see people’s auras, hear their thoughts, and know someone’s entire life story by touching them. I was hooked throughout and devoured all six books in about a week. I loved the writing, the story, and the characters. Everything about these books was perfect for me. I feel like they’re really underrated and they definitely deserve more love! I highly recommend them for anyone who loves fantasy or paranormal books like me!

2) Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

I found out about these books through my friend. She had read them and thought I would like them too so she lent me them. I was shocked that I had never heard of these books before because I bloody loved them. Becca Fitzpatrick is now one of my favourite authors and I am so grateful to my friend for introducing me to Becca’s books. Her writing is so gripping, it just completely sucks me in. I can sit there and read for hours. Patch and Nora were one of the first couples I seriously rooted for and I bloody adore Patch. The covers for these books are absolutely beautiful and I have to stop myself from taking a million pictures of them. This series definitely started an obsession with reading books about angels or fallen angels.

3) Fallen by Lauren Kate

I don’t really like these books anymore but when I first read them I was crazy about them. I think I just wanted to read them because they were about fallen angels and that was something I was really enjoying at the time. It was so agonising waiting each year for the next book because I was so attached to the characters and I was dying to find out what happened next for them. I carried these books everywhere with me so they are very battered now but it shows how much I loved them. I’ve been debating donating them to charity but I can’t bring myself to do it just because of how much I loved them when they first came out. I think the covers are really beautiful too and they changed the covers slightly so I want to hang on to the originals. The first book was definitely a cover buy, it’s so pretty!

4) Alex Rider by Anthony Horowitz

I actually first discovered this series in high school. I was in Year 8 and Stormbreaker was one of the books we were studying which is so freaking awesome! I really loved the first book so I went to the library and got the whole series to read. They were really cool books for thirteen year old me to read and they were so bloody action-packed! They are about a fourteen year old who is forcibly recruited into MI6 and he gets all kinds of awesome gadgets. This series, along with another, introduced me to Young Adult books. I will always have a huge love for this series!

5) Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

I bet it was pretty obvious this series would be on here! I remember all of my friends were reading this in Year 9 and they were all raving about how awesome it was. So of course I had to buy it to see what all the fuss was about and all these years later I still bloody love these books. I’ve read these books so maybe times they have completely fallen apart. Massive chunks are falling out and every time I read it I have to stuff them back in so I don’t lose them. These books definitely sparked my love for fantasy and paranormal. They will always have a special place in my heart!

So I think I found some pretty awesome books by myself and didn’t do too bad without bookstagram! Nowadays my choice of books is definitely influenced by bookstagram because I see so many pretty covers and just go out and buy them. I’ve also found a lot of books through blogging because some people do weekly picks that I enjoy checking out. I think one time I found three new books to read just by reading someones weekly picks. I love it though because you really get to rave with people about a book you’ve both enjoyed. None of my friends read the same books as me so I had no one to discuss them with which sucked! I hope you enjoyed this post and feel free to leave a link below so I can check out your post! I’d love to see your choices and see if we share any favourites! Thank you so much for reading!
