Unpopular Opinions Book Tag!

Hey guys! Today I decided to do the unpopular opinions book tag! No one tagged me to do it, I just thought this would be a really fun tag to do! I love book tags but rarely do them myself and I want to change that! Hopefully I will be doing a lot more after this!

I hope you enjoy this tag and please don’t be offended by my choices. If you loved these books, great! But sadly I didn’t and that’s just my honest opinion.

Here is the original: TheBookArcher

vampire-academy1) A popular book or series that you didn’t like

Vampire Academy… I just don’t understand why everyone seems to love these books? I’m not going to go into detail about why I don’t like this series because I do that a lot already, anyway. You’re all probably sick of hearing me complain about these books! I think maybe I read them at the wrong age because I read them when I was about 18 or 19, I think? Maybe I should have read them when I was 14 or 16, I might have liked them better.

tmr2) A popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love

The only one I can think of for this is The Maze Runner. Obviously everyone doesn’t hate it because it’s been made into a movie but a lot of people seem to prefer the movie over the book but I really loved the book! I think James Dashner has writing that you’re either going to love or hate. Personally, I really love his writing and he’s one of my favourite authors. But quite a lot of people don’t seem to like his writing which is fine because not everyone is going to like the same things.

A Thousand Pieces of You3) A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with OR an OTP that you don’t like

My most recent one for this is the Firebird trilogy by Claudia Gray. There was a bit of a love triangle between Marguerite, Theo and Paul but not really. The author made it clear right from the start that Marguerite and Paul would end up together but she just couldn’t stop Theo having feelings for Marguerite and Marguerite exploring her feelings for Theo. I really loved Marguerite and Theo together they just had this spark and in comparison Marguerite and Paul were very flat and I really didn’t see what was so great about them. Their relationship felt really forced because we were told from the beginning they were made for each other but we didn’t really get to see why which annoyed me.

4) A popular book Genre that you hardly reach for

Contemporary. I have just never been interested in reading this genre even though it is a very popular one. I really love fantasy, supernatural or paranormal books! They are just so fascinating to me I love supernatural creatures or anything that involves creating new worlds. In comparison, contemporary just seems quite boring to me.

The Vampire Diaries5) A popular or beloved character that you do not like

Elena Gilbert from The Vampire Diaries. She was such a hypocrite in the TV show and it really got on my nerves. She was so high and mighty she thought she was right about everything and everyone else was wrong. She always seemed to think immediately that everything was about her even when it wasn’t. She’d also complain about a lot of stuff for no given reason, I just think she liked the sound of her own voice and having the most attention. She was a really 50/50 character for me because sometimes I liked her but a lot of the time I hated her.

throne of glass6)  A popular author that you can’t seem to get into

Sarah J. Maas. I just really struggle with her writing. This is really weird but lately it just annoys me how thick her books are. Normally I’d love books with 500-600 pages but when I read hers I just get so angry and really want it to be over. I just don’t think I enjoy her writing or her characters as much as everyone else does.

7) A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing (examples “lost princess”, corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)

I’m going to give two answers for this. First, LOVE TRIANGLES. Oh, the pain. Why do authors think it’s okay to do this? It really isn’t! It ruins so much of the book. You start it thinking this book is amazing but then you get smacked in the face with the love triangle and then it makes you so angry. Why can’t a female character have a best friend and a boyfriend? Why does it all have to be messy and complicated? It really does ruin the book. A second trope I hate is lost princess who then becomes a queen. This is literally in every single book now. Why? Why are we so fascinated with this all of a sudden? I enjoy reading about castles and kingdoms but I do not enjoy reading about a sixteen year old girl who suddenly finds out she is a lost queen. Ugh, this really irritates me. Can you tell I’m not a fan of royals?

the-selection8) A popular series that you have no interest in reading

The Selection. I see these books all over Instagram and I have zero interest in reading them. It is definitely not my kind of book because I like the dark, fantasy stuff and this seems to be about princesses and just thinking about that annoys me.

9) The saying goes: “The book is always better than the movie,” but what movie or TV show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

I did enjoy The Vampire Diaries books but I think everyone can agree that the TV show was way better than the books. It was a lot more interesting, there was less drama between the characters and the storyline was a lot better. The actors were really good choices and they made the characters a lot better than they were in the books. I really liked all the changes they made to, for once it didn’t bother me that it was nothing like the book. This is only counting up to season 5 because after that it was awful.

I really hope you enjoyed this tag! If you’d like to see more I’d love to know which ones are the best to do? Feel free to leave a comment with your unpopular opinions and if you agree or disagree with any of mine!

I agree with most of what you said in the post, but I think you should really give the selection a chance. It really looks like a princess-y book, but if you read it you’ll be completely sucked into it, and binge read the rest of the series, trust me.

I’ll keep that in mind, thanks! Honestly I think I’m just judging the book too harshly by the cover 🙂 I might try a sample on Kindle and see if I like what I read!

Haha literally no one could do anything unless Elena agreed with it and if they did it anyway she blamed them for everything from that point onwards! But if Elena did something wrong it was never her fault! She’s such an annoying character
